This is ridiculous.
We KNOW that NFA can do transfers in 3 -5 WEEKS if they want to, it became the norm for a short while.
Now we are back to around five months or longer, and I do NOT accept the excuse that they are soooo busy.
I watch the boards, I am an 07, there are NOT an extraordinary number of transfers in process!
Guns that used to sell in hours take weeks to move.
I can only conclude these delays are deliberate, an effort to get more SOT's to just give up.
It is time to bend the ears of congress again, I intend to bring this up with any candidate who wants my vote. |

My last Form 1 I recieved May 19 of this year. It was 94 days door to door. If you are having delays the best thing to do is file an constituant complaint with your congressman.
I went through this years ago on a Form 1. It was amazing at the level of personal service I got from the ATF after that. There are two reasons to envolve your congressman.
First is that if for some reason your particular app is having a problem he/she will take care of it.
Second is if there is a systematic problem (like not enough examiners do to money) he/she may be able to see that more money is appropriated and mandated for more examiners.
Bottom line is that your congressman is YOUR rep to the federal government. It is their number one job to help you cut through federal red tape - not to make laws. If they do not know of a problem then they cannot fix it.
I've been to my congressman on several different issues. The help I got was amazing! _________________ A smart man learns from his mistakes. A wise man learns from the mistakes of others. |

In order to be effective, unless you have an exceptionally good member of congress, this will require that MANY of us make the same complaint.
Not too long after this forum was started enough of us raised a ruckus that there was a brief period when most transfers took no more than ten weeks.
Many, if not the majority, were done in five weeks or less.
This revealed that there is really is no reason for long transfers beyond BATFE-NFA policy from the top (AG, currently an anti-gun zealot, picked by the pres.).
Enough heat can melt the wall that the blocks our path to smooth timely transfers, do indeed contact your reps.
With this being an election season I will not be shy in asking candidates to take a position as well. |

Yeah the good old days. From late '04 through '06 my Corp transfers were taking twenty seven to thirty days door to door, either Form 1 or 4.
From '07 into '08 they went three months plus.
Late '08 through '09 four to four and a half months.
This year it picked up, one month to go pending and a month and a half for approval or two and a half months total.
ATF claims that in '09 the amount of transfers went from 600k (all types) to over 900k.
They also state that they are spending more time checking Trusts for legality issues.
Corps are a no brainer, check the validity/activity/ legal status at the state websites and they are done.
Apparently they hired a couple more examiners, but I don't know if that will help. _________________ NFA stamp collecting is fun! |

Sandra Snook has transferred to another position and Butch Shipman has taken over for her.
Not sure what that portends, just passing on the information.
Hopefully any newbies will not just make up their own regulations and procedures as has been known to happen in the past, or "lose" forms when they get frustrated. |
